This imaginative and playful space elebrates Eric's
comic humour, his partnership with Ernie Wise and
his great interest in birds. The bronze statue of Eric is just larger than lifesize and depicts him in one of his characteristic poses, with a pair of binoculars hanging around his neck (Eric was a keen ornithologist). People queue to have their photo taken alongside the statue and it is one of the most popular attractions in the resort. The statue is at the top of a flight of granite steps in which the famous song 'Bring Me Sunshine' is engraved. The space below contains granite circles and stars adorned with one liners and the names of celebrities who appeared on the Morecambe and Wise show, and is enclosed in a rock landscape scattered with bronze seagulls. The whole stage is sensational at night when superb lighting effects bathe the area in colour. The statue is seldom alone, whatever time of day or year. It was unveiled by the Queen and achieved publicity for Morecambe that would have cost millions to buy. The Artists Lead Artists: Gordon Young, Russell Coleman Landscape:Ann Kelly.
